Isomorphic Labs, the biotech spinoff from Google DeepMind, says it is preparing to test drugs designed entirely by AI in human clinical trials. The technology builds on AlphaFold’s Nobel Prize-winning work predicting protein structures.

The move is significant because it shifts AI from research tool to drug candidate factory. Instead of screening massive chemical libraries, the model designs molecules against disease targets from scratch. Early industry voices suggest the approach could compress discovery timelines from years to months.

There is still a long regulatory road ahead, and many AI-designed candidates will fail the same way traditional drugs do. But the milestone matters: an AI-first molecule is about to enter the same testing pipeline as everything else.
