OpenAI’s Codex coding agent is now generally available, targeting enterprise development workflows rather than weekend hobby projects.

OpenAI has moved Codex from preview to general availability, positioning the coding agent as a real teammate for software teams rather than a chatbot that happens to write functions.

The tool is designed to handle multi-step coding tasks, review its own work, and integrate into existing engineering workflows. Pricing and access are aimed squarely at businesses that want to accelerate development without hiring an army.
